Former Harrisonburg Turk shortstop Cliff Pennington (Texas A&M) was selected in 21st overall by the Oakland Athletics.

Over 60 CURRENT & FORMER VALLEY PLAYERS TAKEN IN MLB DRAFT

HARRISONBURG, Va. (6/12/05) – During this past week’s 2005 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft, the VBL had more than 60 current & former players selected.  Headlined by former Harrisonburg Turk short stop Cliff Pennington (Texas A&M) being selected by Oakland with the 21th pick overall.

The Valley was well represented by having 20 players selected within the first 10 rounds.

Five current players were selected in the draft, Woodstock’s Bobby Moseback (9th), Luray’s Chiqui Chirino  (10th), Winchester’s Enrique Garcia (17th), Harrisonburg’s Chris Fessler (30) and New Market’s Kyle Sadlowski (34th).

Both Harrisonburg had the most players selected in this year’s draft with 11.

Baltimore selected the most Valley players of all the MLB teams, selecting five former players. Of the five players the Orioles selected were Paco Figueroa and Daniel Figueroa, both attended the University of Miami and played for Winchester during the 2002 season.
