Winchester
, Va.
(7/10/05) - The Southern Division All-Stars defeated the Northern Division All-Stars last night 4-2 in the 2005 Valley League All-Star Game at Winchester's Bridgeforth Stadium.  The games started out as a pitchers duel, but in the seventh inning the Southern Division scored three runs off of five hits to take a 3-1 lead.

Staunton's Kori Wade(Baltimore City CC), was named the Southern Divisions MVP. Wade entered the game in the bottom of seventh while the North was threatening with the bases loaded and the South trying to maintain a one-run lead. The Northern Division MVP went to Front Royal’s Phil Disher (South Carolina). Disher was the only player on the North squad with multiple hits; going 2-for-2 with a run scored. Disher also defeated New Market’s Dustin Roberts (West Alabama) to win the Home Run Derby Championship prior to the game.

Other highlights on the evening was Harrisonburg’s Jeff Carroll (Ohio State) who went 2-for-3 with a run scored, Harrisonburg’s Scott Cousins (San Francisco) went 1-for-3 with an RBI and the game’s only extra base hit a double to right field in the eighth inning.  Luray’s Eddy Rodriguez (Miami) went 1-for-3 with an RBI to help the North, Rodriguez also threw out two base runners attempting to steal second to end the first and third innings.

Waynesboro’s Brett Palanski (Rhode Island) was credited with the win, while Palanski’s summer teammate Scott Massey (UT-Martin) picked up the save.  Luray’s Andrew Lane (Miami) was tagged with the loss after allowing three runs off of five hits in the top of the seventh inning.
