NEW MARKET FINISHES RANKED 13TH NATIONALLY AMONG SUMMER LEAGUE TEAMS

The New Market Rebels finished the 2006 season ranked 13th in PG Crosschecker's final ranking of the nation's top 16 summer college teams.  The Rebels were ranked as high as fourth in the nation until Luray beat them in the second round of the Valley League playoffs.  New Market finished its stellar season with a 34-12 record.

New Market was led by three players who made the All-League team.  Jon Geiger of Columbus State University hit .301 for the Rebels while knocking in 11 runs and scoring 27 times.  He was also successful on 23 out of his 27 stolen base attempts.  Gerard Haran of the College of New Jersey batted .285 for New Market.  He had 13 doubles and seven home runs while driving in 27 runs in 2006.  He also had an impressive .403 on-base percentage and stole seven bases out of eight attempts.  Tusculum College reliever Brandon Dickson is the third player for the Rebels who made the Valley All-League team.  Dickson had an ERA of 1.21 and an impressive record of 5-0 while appearing in 25 games.  Dickson struck out 33 of his 102 batters faced for the year.

Waynesboro was ranked in the top 16 for much of the season but stumbled in the playoffs to fall out of the rankings.  The Generals finished the season with a record of 27-15.  The Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox finished the year as the top ranked team in the country.  The Red Sox won both the regular season and postseason in the Cape Cod League and had a record of 32-18.
