SAN JOSE, Calif., June 21, 2007 – Former Luray Wranglers short stop Brian Bocock was recently selected to play for the United States team as they take on the World team in the 2007 XM Satellite All-Star Futures Game.

The Futures Game is the first event as part of Major League Baseball’s All-Star weekend, which will be hosted this year by Bocock’s organization, the San Francisco Giants, at AT&T Park.  The game, which features the top prospects throughout Minor League Baseball, will be broadcast live on ESPN2 on Sunday, July 8 at 4 p.m. ET.  The U.S. team will be managed by Hall of Famer Dave Winfield.

Bocock, who played for Luray in 2004, is currently playing for the high Single-A San Jose Giants in the California League.  He started the season with Augusta in the low Single-A South Atlantic League and hit .292 with nine doubles, a triple, a home run, 20 RBIs, and 26 stolen bases in 39 games.  After the call up to high A, he has hit .270 with eight doubles, a home run, 15 RBIs, and three steals through Friday night.

Bocock helped the Wranglers to a 23-21 record in 2004, which at the time was the best mark in the franchise’s brief history.  He is a native of the Shenandoah Valley from Dayton and played his high school ball at Turner Ashby High School.  He went on to play collegiately at Stetson University in Florida.  He was drafted in the ninth round by the Giants in 2006 after hitting .323 over three years with the Hatters.
