All-Star Rosters Announced
WINCHESTER, Va. - The Valley Baseball League has announced its selections for its annual All-Star game to be hosted by the Woodstock River Bandits on July 12 at Central High School in Woodstock.
The annual game, which pits players selected from the six southern-most teams in the league against a squad chosen from the six northern-most teams, will feature 28-team squads and free substitution.
In addition to the game, a skills competition and a home run derby will be held. Ten players, five from each half of the league, will take part in the home run derby.
All 12 teams are represented in the game by at least one pitcher and two field players. League-leader Staunton boasts seven picks while Fauquier, Haymarket, New Market, Waynesboro and Winchester have five each.
Because the league has games scheduled the day before the all-star game, two alternate pitchers have been selected for both the North and South teams in the event that one of the pitchers is unable to participate.
Braves manager Lance Mauck will head up the South team and Luray skipper Mike Bocock will manage the North team. The managers of the league's other 10 teams will serve as assistant coaches for their respective squads.
The complete teams:
North Alternates: Jeff DeCarlo, Front Royal; Tyler Truxell, Luray
South Alternates: Garrett Baker, New Market; Matt Shepherd, Waynesboro
Rob Froio from Rockbridge was originally selected to the South team but will be unable to participate.
