Waynesboro Generals Sold
WAYNESBORO, Va. – Waynesboro Generals owner Jim Critzer
announced January 7 that he has sold the club to Jerry Carter and
John Leonard.
The finalization of the sale is subject to a January 22 vote of the
owners of the other 11 Valley League teams.
Critzer told the Waynesboro News Virginian on January 7 that he was
selling the team in order to spend more time with his family. In
addition to selling a ballclub that has won the last three Valley
League regular season titles, Critzer also resigned as head coach
of the Waynesboro High School baseball team.
Carter, who became involved with the league last season his
“Around the Valley League in 60 Days” promotion, will
run the team along with Leonard. Leonard has been involved in the
league in an unofficial capacity through his blog,
AllThingsValleyLeague (http://www.allthingsvalleyleague.typepad.com/).
Both men told the News Virginian that they would not be making
player personnel decisions. That role will be left to the
coach.
Lawrence Nesselrodt, who coached the team to those three
consecutive championships and is now the head coach at NAIA West
Virginia Tech, has not made a decision as to whether or not to
return to Waynesboro in the summer of 2009.
“It’s certainly been a great three years. Once this
semester of recruiting finishes … and I can put one clip
board down, I’ll have a couple of weeks to see how much
I’m going to be able to get done for fall recruiting …
It’s going to take a couple of months to recognize if I get a
chance to get away,” Nesselrodt told the News Virginian on
January 7.
