Players of the Week Announced
North
Player: Jesse Henry, Front Royal. Henry, a rising junior from Shenandoah University, celebrated his return to the lineup by leading the Valley with a .538 average last week. Henry had seven hits in 13 at-bats, drove in two runs and was a perfect 2 for 2 in stolen bases.
Pitcher: Chad Rothlin, Fauquier. Rothlin continued the Gators dominance from the pitching mound by winning a pair of games last week and holding opponents without an earned run. In 6.0 innings pitched, Rothlin struck out six, walked three and allowed just two hits.
Central
Player: Kevin Rufus, New Market. Rufus hit .471 last week with eight hits in 17 at-bats and had a double and a home run. In addition, he drove in three runs, had a slugging percentage of .706 and had 12 total bases.
Pitcher: Ben Alsup, Luray. Alsup was dominant in an 11-0 win over Harrisonburg last week, striking out 11 in eight innings and then registering one more strikeout on Sunday against Covington. Alsup allowed just two hits in that Harrisonburg victory.
South
Player: Ryan Durrence, Covington. Durrence hit .412 for the week with seven hits in 17 at-bats and had a co-Valley best two home runs. He slugged .824 for the week and had 14 total bases.
Pitcher: Jake Ramsey, Covington. Ramsey was nearly perfect on the week, striking out seven in five innings of work in a 2-1 win over Waynesboro on July 14. He allowed just one hit on the week.
