Players of the Week Announced

North

Player: Ben Hammer, Winchester. In four games last week, Hammer led the Valley League with a .563 average. In addition to his nine hits in 16 at-bats, Hammer drove in six runs and scored four times.

Pitcher: Steven Rivera, Winchester. Rivera cooled off one of the Valley's hottest teams, Front Royal, by tossing a complete game shutout on July 22. He allowed just three hits against seven strikeouts in going the distance for the win.

Central

Player: Garrett Wittles, Luray. Wittles had seven hits in 16 at-bats (.438) for the Wranglers last week while driving in seven runs with four extra base hits.

Pitcher: Garrett Baker, New Market. Baker helped the Rebels to an important Central Division victory on July 24 over Harrisonburg by throwing the first 7.0 innings of a 4-0 win over the Turks. Baker allowed just two hits and two walks while striking out eight.

South

Donovan Huffer, Staunton. Huffer helped the Braves to an undefeated week by posting a league-best 12 hits in 26 at-bats (.462) and also driving a Valley-high eight runs.

Aaron Swenson, Staunton. Swenson improved to 5-2 this summer by scattering five hits and one run in a 5-1 victory over Waynesboro on July 25. He struck out nine in 7.0 innings of work.
