Haymarket 3, Fauquier 1
Mike Demma hit a solo home run and Senators pitchers Matt Benedict and Mark Andrews held Fauquier to just three hits after the first inning in the 3-1 win. Chad Oberacker, who started on the mound for the Gators, had two hits in the losing effort.
Harrisonburg 5, Front Royal 3
Harrisonburg scored two times in the first to key the 5-3 win over Front Royal. Drew Grainer improved to 2-0 this summer by allowing one run on six hits and striking out four before Brad Riddle finished out the contest to earn the save.
Kevin Krantz was 2 for 4 for the Cards.
New Market 15, Rockbridge 5
The Rebels took advantage of Rockbridge starter Iden Nazario's first inning wildness to score two runs on no hits and six walks on their way to the 15-5 win. With the host Rapids threatening in the eighth, New Market closer Brian Burgess came on to snuff out a bases loaded, no outs situation by striking out the side.
Luray 7, Winchester 2
Luray won its third straight behind three hits from AJ Wirnsberger and two each from Pablo Bermudez, Daniel Bowman and Tyler Engle.
Gabriel Ortiz and Dave Fallon had two hits each for Winchester.
Staunton 7, Waynesboro 6
Aaron Swenson allowed just two runs on four hits in eight innings of work to lead the Staunton Braves to a 7-6 victory over Waynesboro. Swenson struck out eight and walked two to improve to 3-0 on the season.
Chris Clinton was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and Anthony Porter was 1-for-3 with two runs batted in.
Waynesboro rallied with four runs in the ninth, but Braves reliever Donald Howell retired the final two batters, leaving the potential tying run stranded at second base.
Ryan Matthews was 2-for-4 and drove in four runs to lead the Generals offense.
Woodstock 9, Covington 2
Johnathan Koscso paced the River Bandits to the win with three hits and three runs scored while starter Joe Witkowski struck out two in six innings of work to earn the win on the mound.
Brandon Lower had a solo home run for the ‘Jacks.
