Friday Night Action

Rockbridge 10, Winchester 6

Brian DeLucia hit a grand slam in the seventh to propel Rockbridge to a 10-6 victory over host Winchester. Graham Sullivan and Iden Nazario also hit dingers for the Rapids while Steve Sabins had a pair of home runs for the Royals.

Front Royal 6, Covington 5

Jared Simon hit the second of his two home runs on the night, this one a two-run blast, to give Front Royal the victory over Covington. Simon gave the Cards the early lead with a three-run dinger in the first before the ‘Jacks rallied twice, including with two outs in the ninth.

Lammar Guy and JJ Muse had two hits each for Covington.

New Market 8, Fauquier 6

Jake Guengerich wins his first, this one in relief, as he strikes out three in 1 1/3 innings. Seth Kivett and Zach Messer were both 2 for 3 with a home run with Chad Oberacker, Kevin Deese and Dan Baggett all getting two hits for the Gators.

Staunton 6, Haymarket 2

Aaron Swenson ran his record to 4-0 with a complete-game effort in a 6-2 victory Saturday over Haymarket. Swenson allowed just two hits and two runs, both unearned. He struck out eight and walked two.

Chris Clinton had three hits for the Braves and Blake McDade drove in three runs.

Zeth Stone was 1-for-4 with one RBI for the Senators.

Harrisonburg 4, Waynesboro 2

Drew Granier strikes out seven in 6.0 innings to improve to 3-0 this summer. Thomas Nichols and Bobby Brown were both 2 for 4 for the Turks. Alex McClure had two triples and a pair of stolen bases for the Generals.

Woodstock 2, Luray 1

Ian Marshall struck out five and scattered six hits and two walks in seven innings to help Woodstock to a 2-1 Central Division, 10-inning win over Luray. Offensively, Shawn Ablett was 3 for 4 with a double and John Oropeza scored the winning run in the 10th.
