Wednesday Wrap

Rockbridge 7 Luray 4 

Rob Froio had four hits and scored twice while teammate Colin Durborow hit the first home run by a Rockbridge player at home in a 7-4 victory over Luray.  George Herbert scattered four runs on seven hits over 5 2/3 and Alan Watts recorded his third save. 

Five players had two hits apiece for the Wranglers.

Fauquier 1, Waynesboro 0

Michael Patton and JB Black combined on a five-hit shutout as Fauquier blanked an opponent for the fifth time this summer. Chad Oberacker was 2 for 3 and drove home the game's only run in the fifth inning.

Patton had eight strikeouts and Matt Shepherd was the hard-luck loser for the Generals. He struckout six in 6 1/3.

Winchester 8, Covington 2 

Winchester used the long ball to power its way to the win over the Lumberjacks.  Jordan Steranka and Bobby Rauh each had two-run HR's and Dave Fallon, who was 4 for 4, added a solo blast. Andrew Longley and Andrew Caron had the only RBI's for Covington. 

Adam Atkins struck out seven for the Royals.

New Market 4, Haymarket 3, 12 inn.

Kenny Mickens was 4 for 6 and drove in the game-winning run in the 12th to push New Market past Haymarket. Sanchez Gartman added two hits and Brian Burgess won in relief.

Greg Hopkins was 4 for 6 and Evan Noell 3 for 5 for the Senators.

Woodstock 5, Front Royal 3

Woodstock jumped out to an early lead on a Jonathan Koscso RBI double in the first and held on for the win.  Shawn Ablett led the River Bandits with three hits in four at-bats and Cory Tilton was 2 for 2 with 3 RBI. 

Anthony Ottrando paced the Cards with two hits, including a home run, and two runs scored.

Harrisonburg 7, Staunton 4

Mike Schwartz drove in three and five Turks had two hits each as Harrisonburg knocked off league-leading Staunton.

Chris Sorce was the winner in relief and the Braves got two hits each from Chris Clinton, Kent Burford and Todd Brazeal.
