Harrisonburg 5, Covington 5
The Turks and ‘Jacks battled to the first tie of the 2009 Valley League season Thursday night as Bobby Brown knotted things up with a double off the right field wall in the ninth for Harrisonburg.
Adam Browett was 3 for 3 for Covington and Nate Weglarz 3 for 4 for the Turks.
Luray 2, Staunton 1
AJ Wirnsberger's four hits in four at-bats and CJ Lauriello's two-run HR led the way for Luray past Staunton.
The Braves only run also came via the long ball - John Dishon hit a solo shot in the second.
Front Royal 5, Waynesboro 0
James Roche had three runs batted in on two hits to help Front Royal blank Waynesboro. Ross Speed struck out eight in seven innings of work to post his third victory of the summer.
Haymarket 4, Woodstock 1
The Senators scored twice in the fifth and once in the seventh to break a 1-1 tie and down Woodstock. Andrew Lawrence was 3 for 4 and Zeth Stone 2 for 4 with two RBIs for the victors.
Matt Blow had a home run for the River Bandits.
Rockbridge 5, Fauquier 1
The Rapids have won consecutive games for the first time in team history by downing Fauquier 5-1. Michael Cheatham was 3 for 3 for Rockbridge and three others had two hits each.
Ryan Gauck and Anders Oster had two hits each for the Gators.
Winchester 9, New Market 8 (10 inn.)
After jumping out to a 8-3 lead through eight, Winchester let the Rebels back in the game by scoring five runs in the ninth to tie the game. In the bottom of the 10th, Steven Sabins reached on an infield hit and Jordan Steranka followed with a double to left center to score Sabins with the winning run. For the game Sabins was 3 for 5 and three RBI's.
Sanchez Gartman had a two-run home run for New Market.
