Saturday Night Fever

Covington 3, Staunton 2 (Game 1)

Sammy Rodriquez limited Staunton to just four hits and two runs over 8 2/3 and Alex Jones earned the save as the Lumberjacks knocked off the Braves, 3-2, in just 2 hours and 6 minutes.

J.J. Muse's two-run single in the bottom of the sixth was the game-winner for the Lumberjacks.

Aaron Swenson took the tough luck complete game loss as he allowed only four hits and struck out eight.

Donovan Huffer had two hits and drove in a run for the Braves.

Covington 8, Staunton 5 (Game 2)

Sherman Johnson went 3-for-5 with five RBI and Benny Mejia worked 7 1/3 to get the mound win as Covington completed a doubleheader sweep with a 8-5 win over Staunton.  Alex Jones picked up his second save of the day for the Lumberjacks and Ryan Durrence added his eighth home run of the year.  

Donovan Huffer was 3-for-3 with 3 RBI for Staunton.

Harrisonburg 5, Luray 4

Harrisonburg heads into the break with a 5-4 win over Luray - Bobby Brown paced the Turks with three hits in four at-bats and a run scored. Ali Simpson improved to 3-0 this summer by striking out nine in six innings of work.

Drew Martinez went 2 for 5 with two runs scored for the Wranglers.

Waynesboro 8, Rockbridge 1

Waynesboro scored three runs on four hits in the first and never looked back against Rockbridge.  Generals starter and winning pitcher Ricky Marshall held the Rapids to one hit and two walks through  6 2/3 innings. He struck out four before yielding to Brooks Cullen. 

Five Waynesboro starters had two hits each, including Evan Stobbs, who drove in three.

New Market 8, Woodstock 4

Kenny Mickens has four hits as New Market doubles up Woodstock in a Central Division contest. Steven Thiele was the winning pitcher - he had five strikeouts in seven innings.

Evan Kehoe was 3 for 4 for the River Bandits.

Fauquier 6, Front Royal 3, 13 inn.

Ryan Gauck had a pair of home runs and Fauquier used an outfield error and a hit batsman to break a 3-3 tie with three runs in the top of the 13th to down Front Royal. Chad Oberacker had four hits in the victory.

Robert Nixon tossed the first 9.0 innings for Front Royal and struck out eight.

Winchester 14, Haymarket 5

Steven Sabins and Gabriel Ortiz each had three hits as Winchester tightened up the North Division race with a 14-5 win at Haymarket.

Jim Vahalik and Zeth Stone had a pair of hits each for the Senators.
