League Returns with Full Slate

Haymarket 4, Rockbridge 3

Haymarket scored a pair of unearned runs in the top of the ninth inning and snapped a three-game losing streak with a 4-3 victory over Rockbridge Thursday night in Lexington. Three of the Senators four runs were unearned and Michael Lang led the club with two hits and a pair of runs.

Rockbridge, who got three hits from Anthony Melchionda, took a 3-2 lead with a pair of bases loaded walks in the seventh. The Rapids then stranded the tying run on third base in their final at-bat when a screaming line drive off the bat of Sam Roberts was snagged by Lang in right field.

Fauquier 6, Covington 5

The Gators rallied for the home win with four runs in the bottom of the eighth - the winning run scored when Jordan Erisman reached on a fielder's choice and an infield error allowed Kevin Deese to score from second.

Deese led the victors with three hits and Andrew Longley drove in two for Covington.

Winchester 6, Waynesboro 2 

Winchester extended its winning streak to seven with the 6-2 home win over Waynesboro. Ben Hammer led the Royals attack going 2 for 4 and driving in three runs and had a two-run triple in the 8th. 

Jorge Marban pitched five strong innings in relief, with eight strikeouts and no hits allowed, to get the win. Cory Kovanda was 2 for 5 for the Generals.

New Market 12, Luray 7

The Rebels took a bite out of Central leader Luray with a 12-7 win in Luray. Kenny Mickens had three RBI for the victors and four others had a pair of runs batted in.

DJ Hicks was one of four Wranglers with two hits apiece and drove in two.

Steve Owens struck out nine in 5.0 innings to earn the win.

Woodstock 10, Harrisonburg 9

Gerardo Caceres hit a bases-loaded single in the bottom of the ninth to plate the winning run in Woodstock's 10-9 win over Central rival Harrisonburg.

Matt Blow and Eric Kroll had home runs for the River Bandits.

Thomas Nichols was 3 for 5 with a solo home run in the eighth and Nathan Weglarz was 2 for 3 with a two-run home run in the sixth for the Turks.

Front Royal 9, Staunton 4

James Roche was 3-for-5 with three RBIs, including a two-run homer, to lead Front Royal to a 9-4 win over Staunton.

Ross Speed allowed two runs on five hits in six innings on the mound to earn the win for the Cards.

Anthony Porter was 2-for-4 with two RBIs for the Braves.
