Streaks Continue
New Market 4, Harrisonburg 1
New Market puts up four runs in the first five innings and coasts to the Central Division win at Harrisonburg. Kevin Rufus went 3-for-5 with one run scored; he scored his run on Seth Kivett's RBI double in the fifth. Garrett Baker allowed seven hits, one run, two walks, and had eight strikeouts in seven innings to pick up his first win of the season. Brian Burgess pitched a scoreless ninth to earn his seventh save.
Mike Schwartz and Parker Brunelle each had two hits for the Turks.
Front Royal 3, Rockbridge 2
Front Royal becomes the first Valley team to the 20-win mark with a 3-2 victory over Rockbridge. Cardinals pitchers combined for 15 strikeouts, including 11 in five innings by Matt Bowling.
Jim Jacquot paced the offense with two hits and an RBI while Rob Froio was 1 for 2 for Rockbridge.
Fauquier 5, Staunton 4, 10 inn.
The Gators kept pace with Winchester for second place in the North with a 5-4, 10-inning win over Staunton. Chad Oberacker drove in the winning run with a walk-off single to make a winner of Chad Rothlin, who improved to 4-0 with the relief win.
Kent Burford had three hits for the Braves.
Haymarket 6, Waynesboro 2
The Haymarket pitchers struck out a total of 10 hitters in the 6-2 Haymarket win over Waynesboro. Tom La Stella and Michael Demma each had two hits and drove in a run while Cory Kovanda and Brett Thomas had two hits each for the Generals.
Winchester 5, Woodstock 3
Leading 5-0 heading into the 9th, Winchester survived a three-run rally by Woodstock to extend its winning streak to eight games. The game ended with the River Bandits having the go-ahead run at the plate. For the Royals, Robert Maddox was 1 for 2 with 2 RBI's and Brad Zapenas 3 for 4. Gerardo Ceceres was 3 for 4 with two RBI for Woodstock.
Covington 10, Luray 9
The Lumberjacks used a three-run eighth to key a comeback victory over homestanding Luray.
Andrew Caron had three hits and drove in three for Covington while DJ Hicks had three hits and four RBI for the Wranglers.
