Friday Night Lights

Staunton 8, Rockbridge 0 

Staunton comes one game closer to clinching a playoff berth with a shutout victory at Rockbridge. The win is the third for the Braves over the Rapids this week. 

Harrison Slutsky did not allow a run over eight innings and struck out five against six hits to post the shutout win.  Shortstop Donovan Huffer had four hits and drove in two runs for Staunton.

New Market 4, Harrisonburg 0

New Market maintains at least a share of the Central lead with the shutout win over Harrisonburg. Seth Kivett paced the Rebels offense with two hits, including a home run, and Matt Townsend was 2 for 4 with a run batted in.

Shaun Cooper had two of the Turks three hits.

Front Royal 4, Haymarket 1

Front Royal maintains its slim North Division lead with a 4-1 victory at Haymarket. Shane Galloway allows nine Senators hits, including two each by Tom La Stella and Greg Hopkins, but gives up just one run in 8.2 innings of work before Ryan George shuts the door for his seventh save.

Anthony Ottrando had two hits and two runs batted in to pace the Cards offense.

Winchester 4, Fauquier 2

Winchester wins for the 10th time in the last 11 games with the two-run victory at Fauquier. Brad Zapenas and Ben Hammer have two hits each for the Royals while Chad Oberacker and Chad Pierce do the same for the Gators.

Covington 5, Waynesboro 2

Richie Rodriquez and Junior Arrojo had two hits each and Andrew Caron added a home run in Covington's 5-2 win over Waynesboro. Before the game, Arrojo got the night started off on a great note when his No. 2 jersey was retired.

Danny DeSimone went six innings to get the win, while Bryce Robinson earned the save.

Brooks Cullen had three hits for Waynesboro.

Woodstock 5, Luray 3

Garrett Wittles had four hits and Pablo Bermudez three, but it was not enough as Woodstock held on for the 5-3 Central win over Luray.

Stephen Hunt and Matthew Blow each drove in two for the River Bandits.
