Rockbridge 1, Waynesboro 0
Rockbridge deals a near death blow to Waynesboro's playoff chances with their first-ever shutout win. Charlie McCann scattered five hits in the complete game performance; it was also his first victory of the summer.
Mike Hernandez was the hard-luck loser, allowed the one run on five hits and striking out five.
Staunton 8, Covington 1
Staunton clinches the South Division title thanks to an
eight-run ninth at Covington. The Braves will be no worse than a
No. 3 seed when the playoffs begin. Anthony Porter had three hits
for Staunton and Corey Polizzano limited Covington to just six hits
over eight innings.
The Braves sent 11 hitters to the plate in the ninth as the
‘Jacks extended the inning by making five errors.
Haymarket 2, Winchester 1
The Senators kept themselves in the wild card race with a come-from-behind, 2-1 win over second place Winchester in the North.
Michael Lang drove in the winning run with a single in the bottom of the ninth - his hit scored Mike Demma from third, who had led off the frame with a double.
Grant Sasser struck out 10 for the hosts in the first seven innings of the contest.
Woodstock 2, New Market 1
The River Bandits draw a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the eighth to get the winning run over the visiting Rebels. Matt Garza led the victors with three hits in four at-bats while Gerardo Caceres drew that bases loaded walk.
Guido Knudson earned his seventh save of the summer with a clean ninth.
Luray 8, Harrisonburg 6
Harrisonburg jumped out to a 5-0 lead, but Luray scored three in the fifth, one in the sixth and then got a DJ Hicks grand slam in the eighth to complete the comeback victory.
The win, coupled with Woodstock's victory over New Market, gives the Wranglers the Central Division lead.
Front Royal 7, Fauquier 4
Front Royal picked up a full game on Winchester with its three-run win at Fauquier. The Cardinals have a league-best 25 wins and have now clinched a playoff berth with tonight's win and with a win tomorrow over Winchester, can clinch a tie for the North Division title.
Jesse Henry led the Cards offense with two hits and two runs batted in while Doug Oney added three hits.
Kevin Deese had two hits and two RBI for the Gators, who are now a half-game ahead of both Harrisonburg and Haymarket for the final playoff spot.
