Haymarket Claims Final Spot

Front Royal 5, New Market 4

It took just seven pitches for Front Royal to complete a 5-4 victory over New Market Saturday afternoon in a completion of a suspended game from July 20. Closer Ryan George came on to strike out Zack Hegelson and then get Zak Messer to fly to center to close out the contest.

The win clinches the No. 1 seed for the Cards.

Haymarket 5, Fauquier 2

Haymarket claimed the final spot in the 2009 playoffs by eliminating fellow North Division opponent Fauquier 5-2 before a capacity crowd in Haymarket.

Scott Van Dusseldorp drove in the first run and Jack Leathersich pitched the final three innings to close out the Gators.

The Senators will be the No. 7 seed and travel to Staunton for the first game of the playoffs.

Luray 7, New Market 4

In the final game of the regular season, Luray downed New Market 7-4 in a matchup of two Central Division squads. The win puts the Rebels into the sixth-seed, so these two teams will face-off in the first round of the playoffs.
