Mid-Atlantic Team Announced

STAUNTON, Va. - The Valley Baseball League announced Monday its roster for the 2010 Mid-Atlantic Classic to be played Wednesday evening in Bethesda, Maryland.

The VBL will once again take on an All-Star team from the Cal Ripken, Sr. Baseball League in the Mid-Atlantic Classic. Last season, the Ripken All-Stars took the inaugural contest 2-1 in a game played at Regency Furniture Stadium in Waldorf, Maryland.

The second-ever edition of the game will played this season at Shirley Povich Field in Bethesda; Povich Field is the home of the Bethesda Big Train of the Cal Ripken League.

The VBL selected a 31-man roster to head to Bethesda for the contest and all 11 teams in the league are represented by at least one hitter and one pitcher.

Both MVP's from Sunday night's VBL All-Star contest, Winchester's Cory Spangenberg and Harrisonburg's Shaun Cooper, earned spots on the Mid-Atlantic team.

Two players: Front Royal's Greg Van Sickler and Winchester's Charlie Steinman, were selected but are unable to play due to injury.

In addition to the game, the two leagues will again stage a home run derby. Cooper, Matt Martinez (Covington), Jonathan Griffin (Luray and VBL Home Run Derby Champ) and Front Royal's James Roche and Pete Greskoff will represent the VBL in that derby.
