Playoff Updates # 2
STAUNTON, Va. - With less than a week remaining in the regular season, all 11 VBL teams are still alive for a berth in the 2010 playoffs.
Defending champion Haymarket is the only team as of today that has clinched a spot in the eight-team playoff field and the Senators have seen their magic number shrink to two games in order to clinch the No. 1 seed.
*UPDATE* - Winchester clinched its spot Wednesday evening with its win over New Market combined with Woodstock's loss to Rockbridge.
The playoffs begin on the day following the completion of the regular season with the top four seeds holding home field advantage for the best-of-three quarterfinal round.
Luray, with 22 wins, has a magic number of one while Harrisonburg and Front Royal, with 21 wins each, need a combination of two wins or New Market losses to clinch spots. The Wranglers, with six games left, have one game in hand to the Turks and two to the Cards.
Waynesboro, Covington, New Market and Woodstock are all within 3.5 games of one another for the remaining three playoff berths.
Staunton is currently 2.5 games out of eighth and Rockbridge .5 games behind the Braves.
