Player of the Week

Haymarket and Front Royal seize week two VBL Pitcher and Player of the Week selections in picks announced Monday by the league office.

Rudy Flores, a first baseman for the Haymarket Senators (Corpus Christi Texas/Florida International) earns Player of the Week honors while Greg Van Sickler from the Front Royal Cardinals (Stephenson, Va/Shenandoah) takes Pitcher of the Week accolades.

 

Player: Rudy Flores, Haymarket. Flores hit a second best in the league .462 with 12 hits in 26 at-bats and a league leading 15 RBIs. During Haymarket’s game against Winchester, Flores went 3 for 5 with 5 RBIs, assisting his team to a 14-2 win. He also had a .615 slugging percentage with four doubles.

Pitcher: Greg Van Sickler, Front Royal. Van Sickler, with a 0.00 ERA last week, initiated an 8-0 shutout against the Luray Wranglers. On Friday, Van Sickler struck out 11 in 6.2 innings pitched and walked just one.
