Player of the Week Selections

Covington and Harrisonburg grab week six VBL Pitcher and Player of the Week selections in picks announced Monday by the league office.

Mike Martinez for the Covington Lumberjacks (Miami, Fla./Florida International) earns Player of the Week honors with Drew Granier from the Harrisonburg Turks (Thibodaux, La./ Louisiana-Monroe) taking Pitcher of the Week accolades.

Player: Mike Martinez, Covington. The Lumberjack had a .533 batting average on the week with 8 hits in 15 at-bats. He also drove in five runs and finished with a 1.133 slugging percentage, and a league-leading three homeruns.

Pitcher: Drew Granier, Harrisonburg. Granier, with a 1.00 ERA last week, had a league-best 13 strikeouts in nine innings against Luray. Allowing only one walk and one earned run, the Turk led his team to a 3-2 victory over the Wranglers. This is Granier’s second nomination as Pitcher of the Week.
