Player of the Week Selections
The New Market Rebels and Front Royal Cardinals seize the Player and Pitcher of the Week selections for the last full week of play in picks announced Monday by the league office.
AJ Albee (Ashley, Pa. /Rider) earns Player of the Week honors while Andrew Kirk (Media, Pa. /Alvernia) is selected as the Pitcher of the Week.
AJ Albee, Front Royal. Last week, Albee had 9 hits in 22 at-bats, managing three doubles and a triple in the mix. With a .409 batting average on the week, the Cardinal assisted his team in a 16-5 victory over the No. 1 seed Haymarket on Saturday. In the game, the second baseman, went 3 for 5 and had five of his six total RBIs on the week.
Andrew Kirk, New Market. Kirk adds a win to his record last week, making him 2-1 on the mound this summer. The Rebel pitched a complete game against the Luray Wranglers Saturday night and came out on top with the win. During the shutout, Kirk allowed just four hits, two walks and ten strikeouts. The 1-0 victory over their local rival granted them a spot in the playoff field.
