Player of the Week

The Winchester Royals have swept the initial Valley League Player of the Week selections in picks announced Monday afternoon by the league office.

Corey Spangenberg, a middle infielder (Clarks Summit, Pa/VMI) earns Player of the Week honor while Charles Steinman (Rockville Centre, N.Y./Georgetown) takes Pitcher of the Week honors.

Player: Corey Spangenberg, Winchester. Spangenberg is leading the league with a .471 batting average with 16 hits in 34 at-bats.  Last week, against Front Royal, he went 3 for 4, assisting his team in the shutout against the Cardinals.  Since the start of the season, the Royal has a .559 slugging percentage and one home run. 

Pitcher: Charles Steinman, Winchester. Steinman, with a 0.68 ERA, is at the top of the Royals pitching rotation. With a total of 13 innings pitched, Steinman struck out eight, walked two and allowed just two runs.
