Rebels Open with Win
HARRISONBURG, Va. - Visiting New Market pushed across a pair of runs in the top of the 11th inning Thursday evening to give the Rebels a 3-1 opening night win over host Harrisonburg in the 2010 Valley League opener.
Centerfielder Jordan Owen laced a one-out, broken bat single up the middle to score leftfielder Kevin Brown from second base and propel New Market (1-0) to the victory over Harrisonburg (0-1) in the Turks first-ever game at Eagle Field on James Madison University's campus.
After the Rebels added an insurance run on a Francisco Ramirez single one batter later, Tony Hearrell allowed just a two-out single in the bottom of the frame to pick up the save.
Cameron Ward earned the win with two innings of scoreless relief while Stephen Styck took the loss for Harrisonburg.
Owen led everyone at the plate with a 5 for 6 evening; catcher Brett Armour had two of the hosts five hits.
