Friday Night Lights

Three games highlighted the first full night of Valley League action.

Staunton 4, Rockbridge 3

Chris Clinton had a two-run single in the second to help visiting Staunton to a 4-3 win over host Rockbridge, Kevin Rufus hit the first HR of the season the Rapids, and the squad had the had the bases loaded in the eighth and left the tying run on third in the ninth, but it was not enough against the Braves.

Tyler Deetjen was the winner with 2.0 innings of relief for Staunton.

Luray 10, Winchester 3
 
Jeff Jefferson's 2 run HR and three hits apiece from Jonathan Murphy and Nick Rickles powered the Wranglers to the opening day win over Winchester.  Blake Crabtree had 2 RBI for the Royals.  Cody Weiss, in relief for Luray, struck out nine of the 14 batters he faced to pick up his first save.

Front Royal 5, Haymarket 4

Kevin Brashears had two hits, including a double down the leftfield line in the seventh, to lift host Front Royal past defending champion Haymarket.

The Cards, who had a 2-1 lead after two, found themselves down 4-2 after Haymarket scored three times in the third.

Front Royal tied the game with two in the fifth, setting up Brashears for the game-winning hit in the seventh.
