Winchester knocked off a local rival to highlight Sunday night action in the Valley League.
Winchester 5, Front Royal 0
Royals starter Hamilton Bennett went eight strong innings in limiting the Cardinals to two hits and striking out six. Cory Spangenberg went 3 for 4 for Winchester while Pete Greskoff and Scott Thornburg had the only hits for Front Royal. Greg Van Sickler went 6.1 innings for the Cardinals giving up four runs of which only two were earned.
Covington 5, Haymarket 1
Visiting Covington showed the longest road trip in the Valley didn't affect them in a 5-1 win over host Haymarket. Ryan Dineen had two hits and Jake Ramsey scattered four in 7.0 innings to key the victory.
Brant Jones and Jimmy Dowdell had two hits apiece for the Senators.
Woodstock 7, Luray 2
Host Woodstock sent 11 men to the plate in the eighth inning, scoring seven runs on six hits, to rally over Luray.
Zach Tobolowsky and Foster Dunigan both drove in a pair of runs in the frame for the River Bandits.
Jonathan Griffin had two hits for the Wranglers.
Staunton 8, Harrisonburg 1
Staunton keeps its record perfect on the season with 8-1 victory over visiting Harrisonburg.
Braves starter Nic Cicio picked up the victory, working 6 2/3 innings and allowing just one run on four hits. He struck out seven and walked one. The lone run for the Turks came on a Shawn Cooper homer.
Todd Brazeal was 3-for-4 with four RBI on a double and a two-run homer with Andrew Bartley getting two hits and Steve Antolik a solo HR for Staunton.
Rockbridge 11, Waynesboro 9
The Rapids jump out to a 9-3 lead and then hold on for the 11-9 victory at Waynesboro. The teams combine for 26 hits on the evening, 13 for each squad, with eight players registering two each.
Robert Skinner paces the victors with a 3 for 6 evening that includes six RBI while Andrew Tourcy, Matt Maloy and Zephan Guyear all drive in two for the Generals.
