Haymarket 9, Harrisonburg 6
Haymarket and Harrisonburg combined for 22 hits, including three home runs, as the Senators topped the Turks 9-6.
Yoandy Barroso and Rudy Flores had dingers for Haymarket with Bobby Brown hitting one for the hosts.
Flores and Brown each finished the game with three hits.
New Market 8, Luray 1
Host New Market scored four runs in the fifth inning on its way to an 8-1 victory over local rival Luray. Jason Coker, Brent Mikionis and Kevin Brown all drove in two runs for the Rebels.
Michael Broad was 2 for 3 for the Wranglers.
Waynesboro 8, Covington 0 (Game 1)
Three Waynesboro pitchers combined to hold Covington to just three hits in an 8-0 game one victory over the ‘Jacks.
Jarryd Summers struck out seven and allowed just two hits in the first five innings to pick up the victory for the Generals.
Andrew Tourcy was 3 for 3 with two RBI to lead the offense.
Covington 4, Waynesboro 2 (Game 2)
The Lumberjacks salvage a split of the doubleheader, defeating Waynesboro 4-2 in the nightcap. Covington scores one run in the first, and after the Generals push across two runs in the top of the fifth, score three runs in the bottom of the frame to take the win.
Guiseppe Papaccio drives in three for the ‘Jacks in the win while Haskell Fink has two RBI for Waynesboro.
Winchester 7, Rockbridge 1
Danny Dierdorff allowed one run on six hits in 7.0 innings to help
Winchester to a 7-1 victory over Rockbridge. Five Royals
players, including Kevin Brashears and Cory Spangenberg, had two
hits each.
Danny Weiss and Andrew Barna did the same for the Rapids.
Staunton 9, Woodstock 0
Staunton’s Ben Alsup and Ryan Bradshaw combined on a four-hit shutout Friday night to lead the Braves to a 9-0 victory over Woodstock.
Alsup picked up the victory with six innings of solid work; he allowed four hits while striking out three and walking none. Bradshaw retired all nine batters he faced with three strikeouts.
Alex Guerra was 3-for-5, including a solo homer while Justin Bagbey was 1-for-2 with a three-run homer and three runs scored.
