Harrisonburg Hits 20-win Mark
Harrisonburg 11, Staunton 4
HARRISONBURG - Harrisonburg becomes the fifth team in the Valley to hit the 20-win mark on the season with an 11-4 victory over Staunton Monday night on Eagle Field at Veterans Memorial Park.
The Turks (20-17) move into fourth place in the league with the win over the Braves (15-23).
With seven games remaining in the 44-game regular season, Harrisonburg’s magic number to clinch a playoff berth is now four games.
Staunton is now two games behind eighth place Covington for the final playoff spot. Like the Braves, the ‘Jacks have six games left.
The Turks seized control of the Monday’s contest with four runs in the bottom of the third. After taking a 2-0 lead in the first, the second run coming in on a Scott Dalyrmple single, the hosts were forced to turn it back on again when Staunton scored twice in the top of the third.
It was Dalrymple coming through again, this time hitting grand slam to left to make it 6-2. Harrisonburg then pulled away with three runs in the fourth and two more in the eighth.
The Braves were held to just three hits on the evening, one each by Todd Brazeal, Ryan Regidor and Evan Ashley.
Connor Winn and Shaun Cooper backed up Dalrymple with three hits each.
Aaron Luchterhand struck out eight in eight innings to pick up the win.
