Harrisonburg 2, Winchester 0
Harrisonburg prevents Winchester from clinching a playoff berth
with a 2-0 win on Eagle Field.
The Turks score the only two runs of the game in the bottom of the eighth, getting RBI’s from Patrick Savage and Scott Dalrymple before working out of a bases loaded jam in the top of the ninth to earn the win.
Kurt Wunderlich struck out eight and allowed four hits in 8 2/3 and Stephen Styck came into record the final out to pick up the save.
Jon Jones pitched all eight innings for the Royals where he gave up only two runs on seven hits and struck out six.
Front Royal 6, Staunton 3
Front Royal wins for the sixth time in seven outings with a 6-3 home victory over Staunton. Will Walsh has three hits and a pair of RBI while Matt Holland and James Roche each hit dingers for the Cards.
Brian Collins led the Braves attack with a home run.
Woodstock 3 New Market 2
Woodstock brings itself to within a half-game of a playoff spot by
downing New Market 3-2. Jonathan Painter, who was added to the team
earlier in the day, allowed the two runs on five hits and two walks
in 7.0 innings to earn the victory.
Billy Barber had a home run and two RBI to pace the ‘Bandits offense.
Kenny Mickens went 2 for 5 with a double and an RBI for the Rebels.
Covington 2, Rockbridge 1 (11 inn)
Host Covington breaks an eight-inning scoreless streak and downs Rockbridge 2-1 in 11 innings.
Casey Selsor, who had reached via fielder's choice, eventually scored the game-winning run when Brandon Turner reached on an infield error with two outs in the 11th.
Robby Stahl had two of the 'Jacks seven hits.
Chris Greiner struck out four for the Rapids in 6.0 innings of work.
Haymarket 10, Waynesboro 9
Haymarket, with a 10-9 win over Waynesboro and Winchester's loss in Harrisonburg, cuts its magic number to two for the No. 1 seed at the upcoming playoffs.
The Senators, with nine runs in the third through seventh innings, led 10-6 but had to hold on as the Generals scored three times in the ninth.
Jimmy Dowdell and Scott Ferrara each had two RBI for the victors.
Andrew Tourcy was 4 for 6 and Grant Fillipitch drove in three for Waynesboro.
