Semi-Final Round Set
Winchester 5, Luray 2 (Win leads series 1-0)
Third-seeded Winchester takes game one of its semi-final round series against Luray with a 5-2 victory over the Wranglers.
The Royals led throughout the contest, scoring two runs in the second, adding two more in the sixth and a final one in the ninth.
Luray answered Winchester’s second inning scoring with a one run in the bottom of the frame, but were held off the scoreboard until scoring one more run in the seventh.
Both teams had nine hits.
The eventual winning run came on a Matt Faiman HR to right center; Cody Gaskill followed Faiman’s solo shot with one of his own to left to give the Royals some breathing room.
Faiman and Keaton Neeb both had two hits for the victors with Nathan Minnich driving in a pair.
Nick Rickles was 3 for 4 with an RBI for the Wranglers.
Kyle Clark outdueled Cody Weiss for the win on the mound. Clark had six strikeouts in 7.0 innings while Weiss nine in eight innings of work.
Front Royal 9, Waynesboro 3 (Front Royal wins series 2-1)
Fourth-seeded Front Royal makes it 4 for 4 for the higher seeds by dispatching No. 5 Waynesboro 9-3 in the final game of the first round.
The Cardinals earn a semi-final round berth against top-seeded Haymarket with the win over the Generals.
Game one of that series is Sunday at 6 in Haymarket.
Front Royal jumped on its visitors quickly, scoring two times in the first and three times in the third to take a commanding 5-0 lead.
The Cards eventually pushed this advantage out to 9-1 before Waynesboro closed the scoring out with a two-run eighth.
Hal Landers, Sean Jamieson and James Roche all had two hits for the victors with Landers and Roche driving in two runs each and Jamieson one.
Andrew Tourcy was 3 for 5 for the Generals.
