Friday Roundup

Rockbridge 7, Haymarket 0

Ryan Yerina tossed a complete game shutout for Rockbridge, giving up only four hits and striking out six.  Offensively, Sanchez Gartman had a two-run single in the first to give the Rapids a lead they would not relinquish before the Rapids broke the game open with a Chris Love leadoff home run in the bottom of the seventh.

Andrew Barna backed up Gartman with two hits and three RBI.

Harrisonburg 5, Covington 1

Host Harrisonburg rallied from a 1-0 deficit with five runs in the fifth and cruised to a 5-1 win over Covington. Scott Dalrymple had the big hit in the frame with a three-run triple while JJ Loker had three hits in four at-bats on the evening.  Drew Granier went the distance for the win, allowing just one run on two hits and two walks. He also stroke out eight.

Andrew Longley, who had both of the ‘Jacks hits, also scored their lone run.

Front Royal 4, New Market 3

Visiting Front Royal scored two runs in the fifth, including a leadoff HR from Drew Gadaire, to push past host New Market.

Frank Zier tossed the opening seven innings, scattering six hits and striking out three, to pick up the victory.

Trey Karlen had two hits for the Rebels.

Luray 7, Staunton 4

Luray bangs out 13 hits to key a 7-4 win at Staunton - all nine Wranglers starters had at least one hit on the evening with Jeff Jefferson hitting a two-run dinger.

Drew Rucinski gave up three earned runs in six innings to pick up the victory.
 
Jonathan Murphy, Steve Snyder, Jonathan Griffin and Eric Phillips each had two hits for the Wranglers and Armani Johnson had a pair of hits for the Braves.

Winchester 9, Waynesboro 8

Winchester scored a walk-off run in the bottom of the ninth to dispatch Waynesboro in a game that started two hours late due to Generals bus troubles. Cody Gaskill had that walkoff single, scoring pinch runner Michael Vargas with the winning run.  Vargas, in for JD Wallace, stole second to put himself in scoring position. Steve Sabins led the Royals attack with four RBI's with Grant Fillipitch going 5 for 5 with three doubles, a triple and a two-run HR for Waynesboro. He also drove in six.

Matt Zahel picked up his 1st win in relief.
