Thursday Night Review

Rockbridge 2, Staunton 1

A two-run fifth, combined with six shutout innings from Ryan Yerina, translated into a 2-1 Rockbridge win over Staunton. Kevin Rufus and Dillon Way each had RBI and Chris Love went 2 for 4 for the victors.

Steve Scoby, Patrick Braswell and Andrew Bartlett all had two hits apiece for the Braves.

Covington 2, Woodstock 1

Host Covington scored single runs in the fifth and eighth innings Thursday evening to down visiting Woodstock 2-1.  Richie Rodriguez, who had two hits on the night, scored the game-winning run by leading off the eighth with a double and eventually scoring on a passed ball.

Matt Reed allowed one unearned run and struck out four in 8.0 innings to pick up the win. Jake Ramsey worked a clean ninth for the save.

Ty Sullivan threw a complete game for the ‘Bandits.

Winchester 6, Luray 0

Adam Adkins and Matt Robin combined to throw a one-hitter as Winchester shut down Luray 6-0. Eric Phillips had the only hit for the Wranglers, a single in the fourth.

Steve Sabins paced the Royals offense with a 3 for 5 evening that included two RBI.

Haymarket 7, Front Royal 3

Four players with multiple hits, including three by Yoandy Barroso, keyed a 7-3 Haymarket win over visiting Front Royal.

Rudy Flores had two hits and two RBI to back up Barroso.

For the Cards, James Roche and Sean Jamison both had two hits.

Harrisonburg 12, New Market 11

Visiting Harrisonburg banged out 17 hits in a 12-11 victory at New Market. All nine starters had at least one hit for the Turks and six players had at least two each. Patrick Savage led this latter group with three hits and four runs batted in.

Kenny Mickens and Jason Coker both had three RBI in the losing effort for the Rebels.
