Tuesday Review

Winchester 5, Woodstock 3

Behind the pitching of Charlie Steinman and the hitting of Cory Spangenberg, the Royals snapped their three-game losing skid with a 5-3 win over Woodstock.  Steinman went 7.2 innings to notch his 4th victory and Spangenberg had a three-run double to highlight a five-run fifth. Matt Zahel picked up his 4th save in relief. 

For the 'Bandits, Mike Garza was 4 for 4 and Billy Barber had a solo HR.

New Market 8, Rockbridge 3

Brian Edelen allows just two runs, one unearned, on three hits in six innings to lead New Market to an 8-3 win over Rockbridge. Jason Coker and Jordan Owen both have three hits and an RBI to pace the Rebels offense.

Jake Mendiola is 2 for 4 for the Rapids.

Luray 5, Haymarket 4

Down to its last at-bat, Luray scores two runs in the bottom of the ninth on a Ryan Lashley two-run, walkoff single to down Haymarket 5-4. Lashley was the offensive hero for the Wranglers, driving in three runs on three hits in four at-bats.

Jimmy Vahalik led the 10-hit Senators attack with two hits and two RBI.

Staunton 10, Waynesboro 2

Todd Brazeal belted a pair of homers to power Staunton to a 10-2 victory over Waynesboro.

After the Generals scored in the top of the third for a 1-0 lead, the Braves answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning. Patrick Braswell tripled home one run and Brazeal followed with a two-run homer.

Brazeal led off the sixth with a solo shot to make the score 5-2 before Staunton put the game away with five runs in the eighth.

Logan Dodds pitched seven innings to pick up the win. He allowed two runs on nine hits and struck out eight. Austin Adams picked up the save with two scoreless innings.

Jon Clinard, Zephan Guyear, Grant Fillipitch and Cody Hudson each had two hits for Waynesboro.

Covington 6, Front Royal 4, 13 inn.

Andrew Longley broke the tie in the top of the 13th with a home run to give Covington a 6-4 win over Front Royal.

A total of nine players had at least two hits in the game with five of them coming for the 'Jacks. All nine Covington starters had at least one hit.

Matt Holland was 2 for 5 with an RBI and two runs scored for the Cards.
