Friday Night Lights

Rockbridge 9, Front Royal 2

Sanchez Gartman went 3 for 3 with two walks and Chris Love 3 for 5 with four RBI to lead host Rockbridge to a 9-2 victory over Front Royal.  Ryan Yerina scattered three hits and struck out four to pick up the win; he has held opponents scoreless for 22 straight innings.

Sean Jamison had an RBI for the Cards.

Luray 9, Waynesboro 2

Host Luray bangs out 16 hits in a 9-2 victory over Waynesboro. The Wranglers got all of the offense they would need with six runs in the second.

Jonathan Murphy, Michael Broad and Steve Snyder all have two hits for the victors.

Terrell Thompson paces the Generals with three hits in five at-bats.

Staunton 2, Haymarket 0

Ben Alsup allowed one hit in five innings in his first start of the summer and three Staunton relievers combined to finish off the shutout in the Braves 2-0 victory over Haymarket.

The Braves took the lead in first on a run-scoring single by Todd Brazeal. Both teams finished with five hits on the night. Staunton’s Patrick Braswell was the only player in the game with two hits.

Haymarket had runners on first and second in the ninth with no outs and the game then ended on a 5-4-3 triple play.

Alsup struck out seven and walked two. Austin Adams worked 1.2 innings to pick up his second save.

Matt Benedict took his first loss of the season allowing one earned run on four hits in seven innings.

Harrisonburg 4, Woodstock 3 (12 innings)

Connor Winn celebrated his 20th birthday by lining a game-winning RBI double in the bottom of the 12th to give Harrisonburg a 4-3 win over Woodstock.

Shaun Cooper also drove in a pair for the Turks.

The 'Bandits had five players with two hits each, including a 2 for 3, RBI evening by Ryan Garcia.

Covington 5, New Market 4 (11 inn)

The 'Jacks force extra baseball with a two-run ninth and push across the winning run with a groundout in the 11th to down host New Market 5-4.

Richie Rodriguez has four RBI for Covington, including the game-winner, while three others get two hits each.

Rusty Smith was 3 for 5 for the Rebels.
