Saturday Night Review

Rockbridge 3, Covington 2

Four Rockbridge pitchers combine to strike out 15 Covington hitters against just five hits in a 3-2 Rapids victory. Alan Watts got the win in relief with four strikeouts in three innings. Matt Harris had a complete game for the ‘Jacks, striking out 11, but was tagged with the loss when Rockbridge scored the eventual winning run on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth.

Chris Love had a solo HR for the victors and Mike Martinez was 2 for 3 for Covington.

Waynesboro 6, Haymarket 4

An Alan Stoupa safety squeeze in the bottom of the eighth scored Cody Hudson and gave Waynesboro a 6-4 win over Haymarket. Hudson had led off the frame with a bunt base hit down the 3rd base line.  Tyler White had three hits and two RBI to lead the Senators with Grant Fillipitch hitting a pair of solo HR’s for the Generals.

Mark Lamm was the winner with two innings of scoreless relief.

Staunton 10, Front Royal 4

Joey Cuda struck out nine in 7.0 innings to pitch Staunton to a 10-4 victory over host Front Royal.

Alex Guerra was 3 for 3 with 3 RBI for the Braves while Greg Van Sickler was 4 for 5 with an RBI for the Cards.

Winchester 7, Harrisonburg 6

Winchester extends its winning streak to four games and snaps a seven-game winning streak for Harrisonburg in the process with a 7-6 victory. Raymond Church wins it for the Royals with a walk-off single in the bottom of the 9th.  Church, who had four hits for the game, and Steve Sabins hit back to back two-run homers in the third. 

Patrick Savage had a solo blast for the Turks.

New Market 10, Woodstock 5

Kenny Mickens gets New Market started on the right note with a solo HR in the first and the Rebels go on to a 10-5 win over host Woodstock. Robert Lamas was 4 for 4 and Max Kreuter allowed three runs on eight hits and one walk in 6.0 innings to get the win.

Billy Barber was 3 for 5, missing the cycle by just a home run, for the 'Bandits.
