Wednesday Review

New Market 7, Harrisonburg 1

Jared Winder pitches a complete game in New Market's 7-1 win over host Harrisonburg. Winder allows just one unearned run on five hits and two walks as he improves his record to 1-1. He also struck out eight. 

Jason Coker led the Rebels offense by going 3 for 5 with two runs scored and two RBI. 

Zach Brewster picked up the loss for the Turks.

Haymarket 3, Front Royal 0

Greg Nappo and Grant Sasser combined to throw a one-hitter as Haymarket shut out Front Royal 3-0. Nappo allowed just a fifth inning single up the middle to Matt Holland and struck out 13 for the Senators.

Yoandy Barroso was 4 for 5 with two RBI to lead the Haymarket offense.

Luray 5, Winchester 2

Luray broke open a tie game on an Eric Phillips' RBI single and another on a Royals throwing error in the seventh to go onto a 5-2 win over Winchester. 

Justin Fradejas and Jeff Jefferson each had 3 hits for the Wranglers while Kevin Brashears had two hits for the Royals.

Covington 9, Woodstock 3

Mike Martinez had a league-best this season six RBI to help Covington to a 9-3 win at Woodstock. Martinez was 2 for 3 including a three-run homer.  Andrew Caron had a good night with three singles and scored twice.  Manny Martir threw 7.0 innings striking out three to improve to 2-1.

Derek Vigoa had two hits for the River Bandits.

Staunton 4, Rockbridge 2

All of Staunton runs came via the long ball Wednesday night as the Braves defeated Rockbridge 4-2.

Patrick Braswell’s solo homer in the first gave Staunton the lead and Steve Scoby’s three-run blast in the third made the score 4-0. Scoby was 3-for-4 on the night.

Brice Schlosser scattered six hits over five scoreless innings to get the win. Al Yevoli pitched two hitless innings and struck out four to record the save.

Mike Caddell was 2-for-4 with a run batted in for the Rapids.
