Pitching Dominates Thursday Action

Harrisonburg 2, Rockbridge 0

Drew Granier tossed a complete game four-hit shutout to help Harrisonburg reclaim first place in the Valley with a 2-0 win at Rockbridge. Granier struck out 11 and retired 10 of his final 11 batters in the win.

Ian Dickson had eight strikeouts in the losing effort for the Rapids.

Winchester 7, Covington 4

Raymond Church had three hits, including a three-run HR in the eighth, to help Winchester to a 7-4 win at Covington.  Kevin Brashears and Cory Spangenberg added two hits each to back up Church.

Matt Martinez was 3 for 4, missing a cycle by just a triple, for the ‘Jacks.

Front Royal 7, Luray 2

Josh Hoguet threw a complete game seven-hitter to give Front Royal a 7-2 win at Luray. Hoguet struck out eight and did not walk a batter.

Offensively, James Roche was 2 for 4 with four RBI for the Cards.

Justin Fradejas had two of the Wranglers seven hits.

Waynesboro 10, New Market 4

Visiting Waynesboro rallied from a one-run deficit with four runs in the seventh and four more in the ninth to down New Market 10-4.

Alan Stoupa had three hits and three RBI and Andrew Tourcy drove in three to lead the Generals offense.

Kevin Brown scored a pair of runs for the Rebels.

Woodstock 10, Haymarket 9

Visiting Woodstock scores four runs in the first and third innings and then has to hold on for a 10-9 victory at Haymarket.

The Senators, who had like the 'Bandits had 17 hits, got back into it with three runs in the eighth and four in the ninth, but left the tying run on base as the game ended.

Thirteen players, seven from Haymarket and six from Woodstock, had at least two hits apiece.
