Visiting New Market is held to just three hits, but makes them count in a 2-0 victory at Covington.
The Rebels scored their first run on a Kenny Mickens double, a flyout and a passed ball before Mickens drew a bases loaded walk in the seventh to drive in an insurance run.
Three New Market pitchers, led by starter Jared Winder, scattered six hits in the shutout victory. Winder earned the win by pitching 7.0 innings, striking out three and allowing four hits and three walks.
Cameron Ward recorded the final four outs to pick up the save.
Robby Stahl had two of the 'Jacks six hits.
Haymarket 5, Staunton 2
Host Haymarket breaks open a tie game with one run in the fifth and two in the sixth on its way to a 5-2 victory over Staunton.
Eric Stamets scored what proved to be the game-winning run by drawing a walk, stealing second, moving to third on a passed ball and then scoring via a Braves error.
Jimmy Dowdell had two of the Senators seven hits.
Staunton, which was held to five hits, got two from Brian Collins.
Bob Van Woert struck out four and walked three in 7.0 innings to pick up his fourth win in as many decisions this summer. One of the two runs he allowed was unearned.
