All-Star Information
HAYMARKET, Va. - The Valley Baseball League is set for a pair of All-Star games next week to showcase its talent to the baseball world.
The annual VBL All-Star game, pitting the north against the south, will be played Sunday, July 10 at Battlefield H.S. in Haymarket. Battlefield H.S. is the summer home of 2009 VBL Champion Haymarket Senators.
On Monday, July 11, at Eagle Field in Veterans Memorial Park on James Madison University’s campus, the league will host the second-ever VBL/Cal Ripken League All-Star Game.
Both games are set for 7:30 p.m. starts.
The annual VBL game, which pits players selected from the the four South Division teams along with New Market and Harrisonburg from the Central Division against a team consisting of the North Division teams as well as Luray and Woodstock from the Central, features 25-team squads.
On Thursday, the two teams were selected by a the Executive Board of the VBL along with the managers of the two teams and the league Media Relations Director.
Central leader Harrisonburg leads with six selections while North Division leader Winchester and 2011 newcomer Strasburg both have five.
All 12 teams have at least three selections to the teams. In addition to the 50 players selected, Erik Hempe, Luray; Ted Hurval, Haymarket; Bryan Brown, Staunton and Hunter Pope, Staunton, were selected as alternates.

In addition to the game, a 60-yard dash competition and a home run derby will be held. Ten players, five from each half of the league, will take part in the home run derby.
The home run derby participants will be selected following play on Saturday. All players are eligible for the 60-yard dash.
Turks manager Bob Wease will head up the South team and Winchester skipper John Lowery will manage the North team. The managers of the league's other nine teams will serve as assistant coaches for their respective squads.
Wease will manage the VBL all-star game in its Monday contest against the Cal Ripken League All-Stars. That roster will be announced Friday.
