Two Ranked in Final Poll
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Valley Baseball League had two teams ranked among the nation's elite in the final ranking poll released Monday by Perfect Game.
The Harrisonburg Turks and the Winchester Royals, who had the league's best two records during the regular season, end the year ranked No. 14 and No. 41, respectively.
Additionally, 2011 VBL Champion Covington comes in as one of 15 teams also under ranking consideration.
The Turks, who were ranked in the PG poll each week of the summer, rise two spots from their position in the penultimate poll of the campaign.
Harrisonburg finished the summer with a 34-14 mark and was eliminated by Rockbridge in the semi-final round.
Winchester, which was ousted from the playoffs by eventual champion Covington, had a 31-18 mark this summer.
The Royals were in and out of the poll on three different occasions during the summer before finally landing in the No. 41 position.
Bethesda (Md.) of the Cal Ripken League ends the year in the No. 1 spot. The Big Train had a 36-9 mark and won the Ripken League title.
The VBL is currently taking nominations for its 2011 post-season awards and should announce those winners within the next three weeks.
