Phillips Inducted into Hall

WINCHESTER, Va. - Longtime Valley League administrator and executive Jim Phillips was recently honored by two Halls of Fame.

On November 4, Phillips was part of a five-person Hunter Maddex Hall of Fame at John Handley High School in Winchester before Phillips and his wife, Betty, were honored by the MLB Middle Atlantic Scouts Association in the middle of the month.

Jim and Betty Phillips were recognized during the 21st MASA Hall of Fame Class Induction for their contributions to amateur baseball.

The couple has been involved with the Winchester Royals since the team's founding in 1979.

This winter, Phillips, who remains as the Executive VP of the Royals, concluded a long tenure as the VBL Treasurer.

Betty Phillips has been a constant with the Royals and the VBL during this time as well, serving in ticketing, merchandising and development for Winchester.

"Having been involved with the Winchester Royals since 1990, I have personally witnessed how invaluable Jim and Betty have been to both our success and the success of the VBL," said Royals President Todd Thompson.

"People like Jim and Betty are essential to leagues such as the VBL. I think it is tremendous that a professional organization such as the Middle Atlantic Scouts would see fit to recognize their contribution to amateur baseball."

Thompson is also a former VBL executive.

At Handley, Jim Phillips has worked in all aspects of game operations duties for the Judges baseball program - serving as official scorekeeper, public address announcer and with the grounds crew.

Phillips also assisted in game operations for the Handley football team during this period as well.
